The history of operating systems

Sadly, VERY few engineers working on operating systems today seem to have had any exposure to operating systems of the past. So FEW good ideas we had in those systems seem to make it into so called "modern" operating systems.

Rather than risk a war talking about how bad some current operating systems are, I am going to propose some of the older ideas here (some with a modern twist) and where I am taking them from. I will also give you pointers to some of the systems I am speaking about and where you can learn more about them.

I think as you do more and more research you will be shocked by how much has already been learned and DONE in this field, and how little is used today.
