I think the report is doing a fantastic job of decsribing, exemplifying,
and creating educational excitement about the Web. I've enjoyed reading
-- if reading is the right word for reading hypertext -- the draft
sections, but I strongly agree with those comments that suggest that we
should address education through advanced technologies in modes other
than the Web as well. I realize this is an incomplete draft report, but
even so was a bit surprised to read that the only reason the committee
was impanelled was to discuss the web. I think we should keep the focus
there, but include applications that cannot be networked yet. We had
some remarkable discussions and asked some fundamental questions. Let's
use everything that's exciting and forward looking about the www, but
place it in a broader context, and not ignore the discipline-based uses
of computers that will lead to future expansions of our educational
horizons, just as the web and mosaic have done.
