Medium Term Recom's

I am concerned that the medium term recommendations only a address the
needs of a subset of our various stakeholders, specifically, current/
future students, and students at other universities. Conspicuously
absent are our alumni and our industrial partners, e.g. executtrive
education students and research sponsors. On the long term page we
start to talk about alumni, but I am afraid that this notion will get
lost unless there is at least some modest recommendation that we can add
to the medium term page.

I would like to propose an additional recommendation which I have
phrased in the spirit of the ones already made:

7. MIT should investigate the opportunities and risks associated with
delivery of educational programs to non-traditional students,
specifically MIT alumni and selected members of industry who, by dint of
their current or expected job responsibilities, could benefit from MIT's
educational programs. The benefits to MIT could be expected to include
new sources of financial support and greater linkage to the external
environment where our research and teaching ultimately must face their
test.

My feeling is that this does not commit us to much ("investigate the
opportunities and risks"), yet, at the same time ensures that this item
gets added to the agenda of the next committee, which might not be the
case if it is only a long term recommendation.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
