I promised you we would hold no more meetings. In order to comply
with this, I now ask your permission to release the current draft
(some pages dated today) to Chuck Vest for his perusal and approval.
I have noted ALL changes from the June 2 draft with little yellow
"NEW" stickers. I have taken account of ALL comments received since
June 2, and I honestly believe that I have written a version of
the "discipline-dependence" controversy that will be acceptable to
everyone. I have also taken into account and essentially implemented
all suggestions. The only exception is that I wish, for reasons of
balance, to continue to call our long-range ideas "recommendations"
rather than "studies." I have, however, stated in the first sentence
that all these recommendations are that long-range issues be studied.
In reviewing the Executive Summary, I concluded that no changes are
needed. If you disagree, please let me know.
Changes were made in nine pages, including the table of contents.
The changes are indicated in the table of contents.
Please let me know as soon as you can whether you give your blessing
to this being the final version (naturally, the top section that
says DRAFT will be removed from every page). I hope to hear from ALL
of you within a day or two. Thanks, and again my thanks for
participating so well on this committee. ...../Paul
